I know this has been discussed before, but I'm bringing it up again, partially for my own benefit and partially because I want to add replies to this thread to the advice section on the PE Glossary/Faq page (http://www.geocities.com/pefaq).
I am in the same boat as many posters here in that I'm a little overweight, which causes a variety of problems, the relevant one to this board being the excess fat in the pubic area which makes flaccid appearance and nbp length go down. Also of great importance to me is family history -- primarily, heart disease runs in my family and it comes relatively young. My grandfather died at age 40.
OK, so I'm right at 6' tall and small-framed. Two months ago I finally tipped the scales at 200 lbs., which for me is 20-25 lbs. too much, at least. I have taken the advice of some of you guys have given to others to fix this. Here is what I have done so far, (starting two months ago).
1) I have (almost) completely eliminated "fast food" from my diet. The nature of my job has me running from client to client constantly, so I have a limited amount of time to eat lunch. I bring from home a chef salad, maybe a piece of fruit, or if I know I'm going to be out I'll get a deli sandwich (usually lean turkey breast, whole wheat bread, veggies and (usually)no mayo). A couple of weeks ago a co-worker bought my lunch and I ended up with a Whopper & fries. After not having something like that for over a month, that Whopper made me sick... my stomach wasn't right for couple of days. I think that is a good sign for me to have had that kind of reaction to it because it showed me what the food was really doing to me when I ate it everyday without me realizing it.
2) I used to be a total caffeine freak, now I have replaced my Coke or root beer with water or fruit juice when I'm thirsty. At meals I drink primarily water, though on occasion I'll have a soda, depending on my mood. I haven't had a cup of coffee in six weeks.
3) It's been a strle to do this regularly, but I'm pretty well set into an exercise routine 3 days per week. I go to the Y and run anywhere from 1.5 to 2.5 miles, then work out on the weight machines. Also on nice nights I've been taking long walks with my girlfriend (twice a week if I'm lucky).
4) I've also been making a concious effort to count calories and reduce what I had been taking in. Usually I manage to keep it under 2000.
So now I'm down to about 193 lbs. I've been hovering between 193 and 195 for almost 3 weeks now. Do I need to be doing anything differently, or is there something I should add to my daily routine? Should I just stick to what I've been doing for a couple more months and see where it takes me? I would like to get out of this rut that I'm in.
I am also looking for sestions on how to tighten up the pubic area after losing all the weight. Is it a lost cause?
Any sestions you guys might have would be appreciated. Sorry for the long post.
Thanks,

Dude, you are off to a great start!
Something to consider is the reduce the amount of carbohydrates relative
to the amount of protein you eat each meal. The Zone diet helped me a lot.
Also, consider your aerobic exercise as a matter of time spent, not distance
run. Each week add 3-4 minutes to your jog/run. Vary terrain if you can.
When you feel you can't run for a longer time (like you hit a wall), add some
wind-sprints to the middle of your jog. Suppose you run 30 minutes, but
can't seem to get yourself to run longer. Then at 5 mins, 10 mins, 15 mins,
etc., take the pace up to a sprint for 30 seconds to a full minute.
Just some thoughts. Best of luck!
Mark
Size- a few thoughts.
You have a well thought out and balanced plan there, but dont get too down on yourself if you occasionally slip up most successful diets now encourage you to have a "cheat" day once per week to reset your metabolism and keep you sane.
An occasional coffee or soda isn't going to kill you, caffeine will help burn calories and soda these days has little sodium and no sugar(most of them anyhow) so all the anti soda stuff is left over from the days when it was loaded down with sugar and salt. Go with a diet choice obviously.
If possible try to exercise 4 days per week, that extra workout will make an enormous difference as you will have more workout days then rest days. I wouldn't advise more than 4 though as your body does need rest days to recuperate. Even if that 4th day is some cardio at home and some ab work thats alright.
Be careful how low you go with the calories, at your size I wouldn't go below 1750-2000 cals/day, you end up lowering your metabolism and get rebound weight gain relatively fast if you start eating more for what ever reason (holidays, co worker buying the lunch, binges, etc). You'll also be hungry all the time and inevitably end up binging. If you hit a plateau dont continue to lower the calories, you need to expel more to keep your metabolism firing.
There are safe supplements you can take like an ECA stack, some go by the name Matabolift 356, Hydroycut, etc. you can get them at any drug store or vitamin store. They contain ephedrine, caffeine and aspirin. Or the herbal equivalents. They are safer than the media would have you believe but in the case that your worried ask your pharmacist or doctor what they recomend as safe. Don't use an aid unless you feel you can't break through the plateau though, save it for when you really can't lose anymore weight.
Another couple tricks for you. Do cardio 1st thing in the morning on an empty stomach, it helps to burn more fat that way. Don't eat carbohydrates after 6-7:00PM, if you must eat after that pick protein only if you eat the carbs they will most likely be stored as fat when your sleeping. Exception to this is if you had a workout at night, then eat a balance of Protein and carbs and even a little fat to keep your Teststerone levels up. Eat this no later than 1 hour after the workout. If you eat later than that go back to the no carb rule. Drink water, water and more water it really makes a difference.
HOPE THAT HELPS!!!!!

Also remember if you are exercising now you will be gaining some muscle weight so it might not appear on the scales like you are losing any fat but you are. You would have to check body fat and measurements.
Good job on changing you life style, keep it up you will see results. Like everything else it takes some time and if you lose to much weight too fast it will be muscle not fat. Your body can cannibalize muscle much easier than fat.

wanna has some good points. I would be leary of anything with ephedrine though. Too many guys on this board reported the "shriveled" penis while taking it. I know if I have too much coffe in the morning, I notice "withdrawals" from the caffeine....keep up the good work...the more muscle you put on, the faster you'll burn fat....if there was only a way to spot reduce...

Everybody has their own opinions and here's mine. rather than putting in extra cardio try a little more weight lifting. The weight you gain in muscle will look better than any amount of fat. The advantage to this is that more musle mass will increase your metabolism and cause your body to burn more calories while you do nothing(sit, sleep, etc. Muscles require energy even in a stationary state). Even if you gained 5 lbs in muscle and shed 5 lbs in fat, the muscle is more dense and it would appear as though you have lost weight, even though you weigh the same amount.
About the ephadrine, try to avoid stuff like that. If your family has a history of heart disease you want to avoid this. That includes stuff like Majuang, and others.
Also, dont cut out fats completely from your diet, They are essential to your health. We all need fatty acids and such for many processes in your body, even cholestorol.
And I know what you mean about being sick after a whopper. I keep my grease intake to a minimum, and when I do splurge, greasy foods sit very badly in my stomache, get a sick feeling for a couple of hours.

Size,
Remember that muscle weighs more than fat, so even if you're losing a little at a time, if you're gaining muscle, then you're losing even more fat weight. You're on the right track. I used to wrestle in college, and believe me, you're doing it right.

I know about being on the road, you can still eat fast food if you want, When I go to mcdonalds I get a grilled chicken with no mayo and a side salad shaker fat free dressing and a regular soda "cant drink diet" it's pretty much a healthy lunch.
All the fast food places now have at least one healty item and salads it's just hard as morning dick not to get fries and other shit when your there. You sound like you got it all covered it just takes time, I'm in the process of losing 10 pounds myself it ain't no easy task. I had used stacker for a while but it gave me cold pool dick so I stopped that but it did work, but I'm off caffeine almost 100% now.

I'm 6' 1" and was very close to the 200# mark, scared me silly. Lost the first 10 pounds JUST by giving up french fries. (I say they come straight from the devil himself).
Then went on Low Carb. Protein Power is the book I bought. It all makes sense after you read the book. I was very skeptical at first myself. Protein Power allows fiber to cancel out a carb one for one as well. Atkins is a little to "radical" for me.
I am now at 172 and going for 165 so I can bounce around between 165 to 170. I feel much better and the diet is pretty easy. You don't crave the sweets, and you can go have a double cheese burger just can't eat the bun.
Not having bread is the hardest part. It is NOT a quack diet like some in the medical community like to make it out to be. My doctor thinks it is great, and says many people are doing very well on it.
The low fat stuff just doesn't work longterm.
Here is a website link with lots of links and info. Buy the paperback and give it an HONEST two week try. Can't cheat though. Every carb counts especially right away.
lowcarb.org (http://lowcarb.org)
Good luck!

I never did get "shrinky dink" while on ECA stacks,
and here is why I think it never did:
I made my own using mini-thins (over-the-counter ephedrine)
and cheap aspirin, and drank diet soda, or mostly Iced Tea w/
saccharin.
Keep the daily dose of ephedrine to a MINIMUM!!!!
The FDA has deemed 100mg of ephedra (ine) safe in a 24 hour period, but I never exceeded 50mg. Just add more caffiene, it has a better effect at least for me.
MY RESULTS:
I lost 35# from late may until NOW! And I feel great, all I really need to do is add some muscle and continue to replace fat. Maybe lose 10-15 more, I like a really lean look. The weight gain was due to an injury that took forever to heal
(fed abductor muscle in right leg) and my favorite sex position was aggravating it further, so it healed SLOWWWWWWW!
haha, I'll never learn! Anyhow, it is now fine and I am looking almost as BUFF as I did b4 the injury.
If U need any more ECA info from this perspective, feel free to ask SIZE!!!!
And, I really got some good info from the rest of U guys,
it will help me to complete my weight loss goal. I still have a 1.5" ELBP/NBP differential... perhaps I'll look like JOHNNY HOLMES when I lose the pubic fat!
(just more handsome) haha
some tips:
dont drink any regular soda, if its gotta be soda, make it diet, no exceptions. also, no need to give up coffee, just keep it under 2 cups/day. ALSO, limit your juice intake to 1-2 cups a day, its nothing but sugar you dont need.
you dont have to go on any fancy diet, but LIMIT your carb intake. Carbs are killer dont eat them. Instead of eating sandwhiches, just eat the meat. Ill echo what someone else said, dont eat carbs after 4 oclock. Try to keep your carb intake under 40 percent of all the calories you eat.
Eat egg whites, cottage cheese, etc. keep it low carbs and high protein.
T
also try to excersise at least 4 times a week, in the morning if possible. I would incorporate some light weight training. Its highly unlikely that youll gain much muscle since in order to gain muscle, you must exceed your caloric maintence level, but it will burn some calories.
A ECA stack will work wonders, just dont over do it. Make sure you stay hydrated.
One more thing, 1700 seems too low of a calorie intake. 2000 should be the lowest you go for your size. Anyway, best of luck, with consistency you will be drop that weight in no time.
For muscle gain and weight loss go with High Protein, Low Carbs. A mutli-vitamin would only help to. You have a solid idea of where you are going with the diet/exercise. 4 days a week dedicated to weights would give you a solid foundation with a muscle base. If you were to focus on two muscle parts each day at the gym, it'd speed up the weight loss and muscle gain. Something like:
Day 1: Chest/Calves; Day 2: Upperback/shoulders; Day 3: Biceps/Triceps; Day 4: Legs
I'd also find time for abs about 3 times a week, maybe after you do cardio, whenever that may be. As said in an earlier post, cardio the first thing in the morning on an empty stomach would be the best time to do it, if you can.
Let me just stress something though. Dont get too low on your carbs. If you work out cardio and weight lifting you need the carbs for energy. They are your #1 source of energy. you cut carbs too much and you will find yourself feeling drained alot. Cut em' back but not too much.

I always regret telling people this advice because they don't believe me. Only eat fruit in the morning. Nothing else. Not pasteurized O.J. but only fresh squessed and other fruit. Only eat fruit on an empty stomach. A good book for you is "fit for life." Hard to follow the plan completely but the fruit part will totally be helpful.

Size,
If u want to get the weight off extremely quick goto testosterone.net and look up the fat fast diet. The diet only allows u too drink protein powder and flax seed oil for 1 month. It is kinda hard to do but if you really want to lose about 30 lbs. in one month it is worth it. I did it for about a week and lost about 7lbs., alot was water weight but after about 3 days it is fat that u are burning. Give it a try and tell me the results.

Lots of good advice here. I recommend Bill Phillip's book "Body for Life" as a great source of inspiration and information. He ties it all together really well in a way that few others do. The before/after photos of people from all walks of life who have made incredible transformations are nothing short of stunning. You might also want to check out www.bodyforlife.com
I was at a nutritional seminar over the weekend in which the keynote speaker was Dr. Richard Scheckenbach, President of R-Squared Nutrition and holds Phd's in both microbiology and biochemistry. He is also the Chief Product Formulator for AdvoCare's supplements. He had a fascinating presentation.
His philosophy is to build good blood and then to circulate it. Sounds very basic, but makes great sense. He presented info that I already knew, but was a big advocate of a breakfast of very high protein, middle amount of carbs, and low fat. Starting the day by starving the body of proteins will put it in starvation mode for the rest of the day. I can attest to this because up until a month ago, I was skipping breakfast to try to lose weight. Didn't lose an ounce. I started using their stuff one month ago today and have lost 13 pounds without much working out at all. Feel great too and stopped taking afternoon naps altogether.
This stuff taste like crap!! I don't know how you followed this diet (5 tablespoons a day)! And if each tablespoon is 14 grams of fat how did you lose weight?? Just curious, but I'm giving it a try.......Have to lose 40lbs.
The flaxseed oil does taste pretty shitty so i just have a big glass of water after taking it. The diet works because you are not consuming any carbs and only half of your calorie requirement a day. The fat in flax seed oil is good fat. Are u taking the protein powder during the day also?
