View Full Version : Average penis size is smaller than you think.
Hi guys. This is only my second post, but I thought I could contribute something that might help all of us. I got into PE to correct a curvature of my penis, but have since warmed to the idea of adding some size, too. I'm right at 6.25" erect, and I've always been happy with that, but I must admit that these .5 and .75 inch gains that other users have reported got me a little enthused about PE for gain, and not just curvature correction. The magic 7" mark is too tempting. But just as I was getting warmed up to the idea, I read an article on abcnews.com about average penis size. Lifestyles condoms just did a study, and they found the average penis to be 5.87" long. The longest they measured in their study was 6.2" and the smallest was 5.1" The article goes on to explain why similar studies in the past have been flawed, resulting in average erect penis lengths of 6.5" or more. I was always under the impression that 6 to 6.5 inches was average, when, in fact, it's near the top of the scale (I understand that there are some that are much, much larger, but they would be catagorized as anything but "normal"). I had always felt average, when, according to this study anyway, I'm technically above average. Compared to this more recent study (a presumably more accurate endevor, as well), I think we all fare a little better. In other words, don't sweat it too much, because it's really not as bad as you've been led to believe. Here's a link to the article: more.abcnews.go.com/sections/us/wolffiles/wolffiles155.html (http://more.abcnews.go.com/sections/us/wolffiles/wolffiles155.html)
This seems to come up quite often. Yes the average size of the organ is probably only 5 3/4, yet I think what drives most of us to PE is not a desire to be above average but rather a desire to be the biggest our partner has experienced. There's always those stories from women about guys who they couldn't get their hand around and let's face it, it's tough enough to love someone who's had sex with anybody before, not to mention someone better-endowed. We want to be the biggest, in the jaw dropping category. It's been brought up in this forum before that many of us practicing PE are already well above average in size. What causes this? For me it's the dismal nature of second place. With girth at 5 3/4 and a length of 7 inches, I am well above those averages listed in the article. I also frequently ask women about penis size who have seen mine, and sometimes the tell me I'm the biggest they've seen (what an awesome thing to hear) but frequently I'll hear that I fit into second place.... there was that one guy she'll never forget who was just huge. I hate second place and the silver medal, I'm just too close to the gold.
I disagree on the part about it being hard to love someone who's had intercourse with another, but that's beside the point. You are right, of course, that many men just aspire to be needlessly large (can't get it all inside a woman), but there are many men on here that feel inadequate, when, in fact, they're good sized. You've seen the posts just like I have: "Help! I'm too embarrassed to take a shower at the gym..." etc, etc. These guys need to know that there's nothing wrong with them. They don't aspire to have the biggest cock their lover has ever seen, they just don't want to feel bad about themselves. So, while everyone does it for their own reasons, I think you're in the minority as far as wanting more cock because 7" just isn't enough. We should love our women as much as we love our dicks.

Andreas,
Thanks for posting that article I enjoyed reading it. I found it interesting about how they thought doing it in this environment might help get a better average. This is because some guys might do it from peer pressure that might not otherwise enter a survey cause they feel inadequate.
I have read every survey on penis size that I can find. I find that statistics are misleading and one needs to be careful in evaluating them. There are two questions one needs to ask. Was it "non-bone pressed" or "bone pressed"? In other words, do you put the ruler flush with the body or pressed into the bone. This makes about a half an inch or more difference. So that is a very important factor in estimating averages. We all need to measure using the same method. When discussing girth, is it "mid shaft" or "widest part." It is crucial to use the same method.
I am in the process of finding out the answer to those questions about this survey and will let you guys know what I find out if I receive back any info.
Good question, Dance. I never really bought into the bone-pressed method. If I did, I guess I could claim 7 inches, but to me what you can see is what matters, and I know I don't have 7 inches showing :) I look forward to your follow-up. Hope you get to the bottom of this for all of us!

To my understanding, endocrinologists (when checking for test deficiencies in pubertal males) measure using the BP method. A layer of fat can make a big difference in assesing true measurements.
For me its more than just being the biggest. I am "7 1/8 of an inch by "5 3/4 but before PE I was "6x"5.5 which I never had a problem with. But anyways I had a few one night stands before and I only asked two of the women how good was it and they both said just about the same exact thing. They told me it was great and it was the biggest but they said it wasnt the best. You want to know why? because unlike us guys, the best time for a woman is when they are in love. Then they are making love not just sex. To women thats the biggest difference. The real reason I got into PE is because when I first started I was with a woman I really loved and I wanted to make our sex life even better, I never thought down the lines of " I want to be the biggest ". If you always think " what if im not the biggest? " then your relationship will have problems. Actually though I heard that the average size was "5 1/4
x "5 according to an HBO special I saw about women and masturbating.
True, it seems that most women, when they are in love (or looking for it), are less concerned about penis size as compared to intimacy and a menaingful relationship. Size is something most of us here (well, a few women too) are consumed by. Just today, my GF told me I have a big penis - the word "perfect" rang out of her mouth. She also commented that I am obsessed with penis size - she knows about my PE endeavor. I don't believe it to be an obsession, but if a woman tells you that you have everything she could want, then take her for her word, especially if you know her to be open and honest. The rest comes naturally - with love. For those of us who want more, we do it for ourselves, knowing that someone else will also benefit from the effort. We now know from testimony and fact that PE is alive and well - and it works. Contentment with self is a state of mind. Big, average, small - it all comes down to how you feel about yourself. Fortunately, if one desires change, all one has to do is make the effort.

I really got a kick out of this article. I was discussing it with my girlfriend last night, and the point that I made was, despite the relatively small sample of 300 guys there was not one who was outside what I expected for the quote, "normal range" of the 5.1 to 6.2. She made a good point, that this was a voluntarry survey and that some guys knowing that they may be smaller than average may have abstainef, which may make the average in this survey still higher than actual.

That's a good point, Bona, but there weren't any particularly large ones, either (wich would also tend to make the data point to a larger average size. I guess they discarded data that fell outside of the "norm" to keep it from bearing too much weight in such a small population sample). I would think the seven and eight inchers would have been getting back in line for a second measurement, just because they're so proud of what they've got :) It's definitely not a perfect science, but certainly more accurate than the postcard survey, and probably as random of a sample as you would ever get in a vouluntary survey of such personal nature. Of course, if you took the average from this topic, it would be upwards of seven inches... Amazing, isn't it?
Sorry to bring this up again, but I think it's highly relevant when talking about averages. Although the real average is probably much lower than the frequently state 6"+, and more akin to the survey you provided Andreas. The average that I'm bothered about is the average that most girls actually get, i.e. the girls that are potential shags.
It stands to reason that most girls will get a higher average because those at the low-end of the surveys will generally have less sex, and those at the high-end of the surveys will generally bonk anything in sight.
I don't think it would be possible to estimate this average because it is going to vary between girls, e.g. size queens will get a higher average. I just think it's something to take into consideration.
The length measurement was non-bonepressed and the girth was at mid-shaft.
The following is from the Lifestyles site:
ERECT PENIS LENGTH
The average erect penis length was 5.877 inches (14.928cm).
Standard deviation was 0.825 inches (2.096cm) with 54% of the effective sample measuring between 5.5 inches (14cm) and 6.3 inches (16cm).
ERECT PENIS GIRTH
The average erect penis girth was 4.972 inches (12.63cm).
Standard deviation was 0.508 inches (1.29cm) or with 53.33% of the effective sample measuring between 4.725 inches (12cm) and 5.118 inches (13cm).

Assuming that the measurements are distributed in a bell shaped curve then 95% of guys will fall within 2 standard deviations of the mean and 99.7% will fall within 3 standard deviations.
Mean (L/G): 5.877/4.972
84% are smaller than 6.702 Length
84% are smaller than 5.48 Girth
97.5% are smaller than 7.527 Length
97.5% are smaller than 5.988 Girth
99.85% are smaller than 8.352 Length
99.85% are smaller than 6.496 Girth
Remember that's not bonepressed and girth at midshaft.
I recall having heard Dr. Drew on
p.s. it was not specified wether or not it was bonepressed!!
Personally, I think it was bonepressed, that is the only way you can be accurate! And they never specified that it could be one of the possibilities why the different testings/surveys are different from one an other! They would have mention it if so!
"Measuring of Length was from the point at the base of the erect penis where the top of the penile shaft meets the pubic area to the tip of the glans ("head"). "
I read "meets the pubic area" to mean non-bonepressed.
I agree that bonepressed is more accurate but they're a condom company. They probably measured so they could make better fitting condoms. You don't put a condom on the part of your penis that's 'hidden' inside your body. Why would Lifestyles care about that portion?
If you want to think they used bonepressed measurements to make yourself feel better then go right ahead but please lay off the double exclamation points!!
