View Full Version : Jelqing works, but how?

Iīve been thinking about what jelqing actually does to the penis, in other words, why and how jelqing works. All over the web, including this great forum, the information is pretty much the same: the jelqing motion forces blood into the chambers of the penis which causes the chambers to expand and over time hold more blood and voila -a bigger penis!
All that sounds logic and understandable, but what I donīt understand is why one should jelq with only a partial, instead of a full erection. There is of course the safety aspect of it (the risk of vein injury when jelqing with 100% erection), but if the goal is to expand the chambers, I would belive that a 100% erection would be better. I mean, when you are as hard and big as you can get, the chambers would probably be as filled with blood as they can be, right?
So how can milking with, letīs say 70 % erection, make the chambers expand? At that erection level the chambers are probably only filled with blood up to 70% and if you fill something (like a baloon for example) with 70% of itīs total volume there is no reason for the container (the baloon) to expand.
Any thoughts on the subject?
I am not altogether clear about this myself. That is why I pleaded for jelqing feedback on a previous post. My hypothesis is that it works for 2 reasons: (1) increased volume of the blood vessels due to the rhythmatic pushing of high-pressure blood through them....expanding them and giving greater girth. However this alone would not affect length. So (2)the pushing forward of the penis during jelqing and the high-pressure squeezing of the penile shaft tend to stretch the fascia of the tunic...giving length and girth increases. This is my guess. Wish we had more input into the "revitalizing the jelq" post so we could do a more careful analysis. These are my guesses about it all (7)

Nice question! I'll try to give my opinion on this. I think, like you said, jelquing works because as you push forward, squeezing at the same time, you're making the blood go where it can only be, forward. So, this forward motion, and let's try for instance to imagine a baloon, when you squeeze the start of the baloon, you're pushing the air forward, making the rest of the ballon expand. Let's say that each cell is like the balloon. Ok, this is what you said, but I thought I'd put it a little more "graphically" :)
So using this balloon analogy, if you had the balloon full at maximum capacity (100% of air = full erection), and you tried to squeeze the start of it, what would happen? Yes, you're right, KABOOMM :) This doesn't happen, of course, in our cells but that's why I think that you shouldn't jelq with 100% erection. If the cells are allready on their maximum elasticity state, they can't possibly expand further.

I think there are two reasons why jelqing at full, or near to full, errectness in non-conducive to results. As already mentioned by you Sizemoore, it greatly increases the risk of injury, and if one gets a pe injury it's gonna be a massive setback. But from what I have also gathered on previous posts, is that when the penis is fully errect the tunica (which is the sheath that covers the three main blood chambers) becomes completely turgid, inhibiting any stretching of the blood chambers it encompasses. At lower levels of errectness, however, the tunica still has some degree of pliability allowing the blood chambers it sheaths, and itself to be stretched and gorged more.
I think the harder you are the more you work your tunica, and the softer you are the more you work your blood chambers. Which would partly account for why jelqing while harder is more conducive to girth gains, and jelqing while softer is more conducive to length gains.
That has always been my understanding of it anyway.
Oh yeah, and because I haven't done so already 7UP, congrats on your fantastic gains, & thanx for improving my stretch sessions with the v-stretch!

Is it possible that by jelquing you expand and contract the elastic tissues enough times that you break them down? Analogous to metal fatique caused by cycling material thru repeated stress cycles, as opposed to just flexing it and holding it. You wear out a spring faster by cylcing it thru a series of compressions than by holding it compressed. Or bending a peice of plastic like a hinge, it only takes so many cycles of bending (or stretching in this case) before it breaks down, but could be held bent forever. As well I know that a scuba tank can be filled to over it's ordinary pressure to look for fatigue, but that each time you test it by doing so it weakens the metal. The jelq may produce cycles of stress on the connective tissue which may in an analogous way break down the fibres partially and allow further elongation of the fibres of the connective tissue. That's why I"m not convinced that holding vacuum in a pump for long periods is helpful. Sure it swells the tissue outside the tunica, but that effect is short lasting. I figure it's best to pump for a couple of minutes till you reach your limit in stretch, then release, jelqu to improve blood flow, then stretch it again. See where that gets me! Definately no swelling or donut effect with that strategy.

I think Procurator nailed it! If the penis is totally erect, the tunica is so tight that you can't put pressure on and expand the cells of the corposa cavernosa inside.
maybe its just me, but i was under the assumption that Jelqing also increased length...
i was told aout jelqing last June2000 and began doing manual stretches and jelqing only... after about 8 months i had gained a whole inch in erect length as well as gaining girth...
only in the past 2 months have i even hung, and my method of hanging is crude at best... "a large sock fastened to my member with about 4 bucks of pennies and a 5lb dumb bell in it"...
when i jelq for the most part i sit on the edge of the tub with my legs spread out... i jelq even as it gets erect, strait down...

If you're gonna jelq while fully erect, please don't pull your cock straight down. If you continue, disaster awaits. Period. When I jelq, and I'm no authority on the subject, I try to stay as close to full erection as possible but it really more or less comes and goes during the session and I'm glad cause my hands can't take it. When I am erect or pretty close, I jelq straight out. I would like to gain in length like Uli and Japp did but I figure this exercise to be more of a girth gainer for my body. Jelqing definitely works though because how else do you explain a thinner cock towards the base?

Re thinner base.
I fixed that by doing some pumping. The base is the first to respond when pumping. Just dont stop the jelq.
The partial erection is essential. If its fully hard there is no possible way that the erectile tissue cells can be worked on. All you will do is to stretch the outer skin and head.

Thanks for all the input guys! It certainly cleared things out. The level of erection might be the reason why my growing has stopped. For the last two months I have been jelqing with full erection (but with a softer grip) and I havenīt noticed any progress at all. I guess I will go back to semi-erect jelqing to see what will happen.
