I have been trying to hang 9 - 10 lbs with the GRIP, without the protective contact sleeve or sports-wrap. The sleeve slides off as I am un-cut. Hanging without the sleeve helps. But at any weight above 8 lbs, without the sleeve on, I am getting heavy bruising and swelling of the head.

Does anybody on this board hang heavy (10 lbs or more) using the GRIP without the protective sleeve or sports wrap? Do all of you heavy hangers use the sleeve with the GRIP? Dont you have the slippage problem?

If you have come up with any improvisations to cope with this problem, please share. I have heard of people using water inside the vacuum chamber of the GRIP, but dont know what purpose that might serve.

Any answers and suggestions would be highly appreciated.

leo,

i'm cut, but i used to use the grip without the sleeve sometimes. like you, however, the suction at higher weights caused problems without it.

this is the first i've heard of putting water in the chamber, but it makes sense (i think). water is much less compressable than air. i imagine the idea is that it serves to prevent the swelling and other problems associated with the vacuum. i admit, though, that's just a guess.

if you give it a try, let us know how it works.

Yes I hang using the GRIP system without using the protective sleeve or sports wrap. I stopped using both a long time ago (far too much trouble). I'm currently hanging 11 1/4 LBS seated without any problems for 45min. Yes, I do experience "swelling" of the head area but this quickly disappears after a few minutes.

It took me nearly 6 months to get to this weight and I did experience bruising/blisters when I tried to increase the weight too quickly.

JEEZ blistering??? Why pay sooo much for a hanging system that gives ya blisters?? Isnt the Grip pretty limited in how much weight you can use as well?

heh heh... no kidding. but it only gives you blisters if you don't use it as intended. as far as the price, i can't answer for others, but before bib's production model hanger there wasn't a comfortable well-made hanger out there that could support higher weights. i'm sure there's a limit to how much weight it would support, but i used it at up to 20 lbs.

but yeah, fooling around with the wrapping can get tiresome, so a lot of people try it without--often with less than pleasant results if they're not careful. go slow!

Yeah blisters... And I thought the tingling sensation meant that it was working. Lol.

It’s only happened twice and both time were when I tried to make a BIG jump in weight. I knew it was a bad idea at the time but I choose to ignore my good judgment. Otherwise I've worn the GRIP without any problems or discomfort without the need for the wrap/sleeve.

Anybody switched over from GRIP to BIB-hanger? Any comments, comparisons? Before I shell out another 120 bucks, I just would like to reassure myself that its well worth the money to thow away my GRIP and go for the BIB.

Just a repeat question soliciting some response. Anybody switched from the GRIP to BIB-Hanger. What are your feelings, and how would you compare the two.

Thanks.

Or.......here's a good idea for ya leo! You could go to Ebay and put your Gripe....oops! I meant Grip system up for auction and use the sale $$ as an investment on your new BIB. Surely you could get at least $120 for your Grip right?
