i see on tv people that make their own milkshakes from bananas and i dont know what else. Are these supposed to help you gain weight?
i am a skinny guy. I always eat but i never gain much weight. I cant buy a weightgainer right now so i was wondering if there is anything that can be made from stuff at home?
i was told once that you take 2 eggs, put them in a blender with coca cola and you drink that, and that drink helps you gain weight in the chest area, is this true?
my main area of work is the chest area (what i want to improve)
Whoever told you that coke and eggs recipe is having a laugh. That probably will help you put on fat (not just in the chest area) - if you can keep it down.
Try mixing up a shake with, like you say, bananas - extra protien from egg whites and/or powdered milk. If it is a calorie loaded weight gainer you are after do the above and add in some ice cream. Maybe add in some cocoa powder to taste.
Really though i would advise you to buy some weight gainer. This sort of stuff is really cheap - say about £16 here - which would be about $25 or so for like 2 kilos (sorry! about 4 pounds) or something and as it comes as like a 1000 or 1200 claorie shake you can get by by just using half a serving at a time.
How come you can't buy any shakes?

I don't know about muscle stuff, but if you'd like a healthy shake with a bit of all the necessary nutrients, try this:
~banana, fruit juice, frozen fruit, plain lowfat yogurt
Blend it until milkshakey. It's pretty good for you and very tasty. You'd probably be wise to use regular yogurt instead of lowfat. I haven't the skinny problem you do...

have you done this? how many egg whites? can it be regular milk not powdered? do you have your own personal recipe

I DONT CARE IF ITS HEALTHY! i just want to gain weight but i cant buy a weightgainer at the moment.
It doesn't taste too good of course what with the raw egg whites, but hey thats the price of cheapness.
The powdered milk is added to normal milk to make the shake - adding the powdered milk gives you more protien and calories in the shake.
No personal recipe - you just have to mess it about until you can keep it down, I'm not the best with things that don't taste good.
Really i would advise EAS myoplex. But if you can't buy it at the minute then do the above.
If you want to gain weight stay away from fruit-based blended drinks. There are a lot of calories in fruit which is good, but they are pretty much all from simple carbohydrates (sugar) and tend to be turned to fat and not lean mass.
For weight gaining stick with packaged weight gaining powders. Like BigJ mentioned, he likes EAS Myoplex shakes and I have a stash myself. Also look into Muscle Milk and there are dozens of different ones out there with high carbs, low carbs, etc. If you're skinny and want mass go for the high carb shakes. I know I just contradicted myself because I was saying to stay away from carbs with the fruits, but the carbs found in most prepackaged shakes are complex. If you're a guy who is concerned about fat and has to battle it, go for a low carb weight gaining shake.
I use Muscle Milk and blend it with 1% milk. That is good for 50 g of protein and a good 500 calories... not bad for one drink.

Bannanas and half and half ( not milk, but the rich creamy shit people put in tea or coffee)! I used to be rail thin at about 200 lbs and 6'10" right out of high scholl at 17! I also used to get a gallon of ice creme and whole milk and make about 3 milkshakes over the weekend of it!
Sorry ed, I didn't realize you said you couldn't buy the weight gainer shakes due to lack of funds... I thought maybe you just didn't have access to them.
In response to the topic at hand and not yours in particular, anybody who decides to take on the monumentous task of gaining muscle mass will realize that muscle is as expensive as gold.
They say eat thousands of good calories and hundreds of grams of protein to effectively gain muscle, but as we know food can get expensive- especially the kinds of high protein, healthy foods reccomended for bodybuilding.
Weightgainer shakes can be expensive up front, but a lot of times they replace a meal. Say you pay $55 for a box of 36 Mypoplex shakes. This comes out to a little over $1.52 a serving, so it's hard to bite the bullet and pay $55 up front, but for me it's cheaper in the long term because there's a breakfast that I might otherwise eat $2.50 worth the food.
Again, this email isn't aimed to you Ed, and twatteaser's half and half concoxion is a step in the right direction. My reccomondation is to drink milk (1% or fat free) at every available opportunity. It's cheap and dairy protein is one of the better kinds out there next to meat.

Hmm. I would think it would actually cost more to buy shit to make it yourself. But I dont know, maybe you live on a farm.
I dont have any money either, That is why i DO buy weight gain shakes. They are cheaper than a lot of other food, especially fresh fruit, milk, etc.

Well, this advice is six months late, but what the heck ...
If someone just wants to gain any kind of weight, eat lots of sugar -- you'll get fat in no time -- well for us skinny guys, fat around the belly.
If you want to gain muscle, well, you have to be a lot more precise in you diet and your workouts.
Putting on muscle requires two things -- stress on the muscles (heavy lifting) and proper nutrition. You'll have to eat a lot of lean protein (40% of your diet.) The carb portion is actually cheap, it is the protein that'll bleed your budget.
Pound for pound of delivered protein, whey is the cheapest source of protein. Chicken breasts, lean cuts of beef, etc are more expensive by far.
Those "weight gainers" are almost always made up of whey as the protein source and maltodextrin as the carb source. You can get the commercial blends such as Myoplex, or you can get the bulk ingredients for cheaper and mix your own.
The guru of mass gain for skinny guys is http://www.skinnyguy.net
The manual and a few useful extras (fat caliper) cost $77. If you are skinny and want to gain mass and are serious about it (and have money for either a gym, a gym membership, and money for the food requirements) this is the best program out there targeted at the special needs of skinny guys.
Not everyone can gain mass, but if you can, then this program is likely to be the most successful for you.

The whey protein is right...try eating 300-350 grams of protein per day (6 meals per day - 3 shakes - 3 meals 55-60 grams of protien per sitting). I wouldn't agree with 40% - not enough protein to gain muscle...& leaves room for too many carbs/fats. Myoplex is ok - but it will cause your wallet to lose a helluva lot of weight - generic whey is the best (10lbs is usually 40-50 bucks and will last you a couple weeks)
Try and keep carbs at/under 60-75 grams per day (shoot for fibrous carbs) The only time you want to up the carbs is a bit before weight training (15-20 grams of sugary carbs) and immediately after (after with sugars to help with recovery) - you want 80-100 grams immediately post workout. You also want to throw in ALA after every "real" meal to help get rid of the extra carbs.
Keep the protien intake high...hit each muscle group only once per week...use a split routine to make sure compound excercises are far enough apart to avoid overtraining - drink lots of water - and since you're a hard gainer...avoid cardio at all costs.
